No Car Nashville
We finally had a break from the Polar Vortex and had great weather this past Saturday. I'm in the car a lot and I wanted to take a break from driving and enjoy the day. Public transportation isn't super in Nashville, but downtown we have the free bus called the Music City Circuit. It stops right in front of our building and runs from 6:30 AM - Midnight during the week. It doesn't start until 11:00 AM on Saturday which makes the early morning run to the Downtown Farmer's Market a problem. It doesn't run at all on Sundays so we have to brunch close to home if we don't want to drive. Not looking a gift horse in the mouth or anything!
We got off at the Gulch and were faced with a ton of new places to eat but decided on The Peg Leg Porker. It's a little difficult to find because you won't see if from the main drag. Head up to Division Street, hang a left and the hang another left by Yazoo Brewery and you're there. It's not pedestrian friendly and you'll feel like you are in some back alley but it will be worth it. How worth it? A friend of mine traveled a total of 4 hours to Nashville to pick up PLP BBQ for her 4th of July get together. That's how good it is.
We love sitting at the bar at PLP. The bartender is really friendly and, like Mr. Ville says, you're all just one big family at the bar.
I ordered the Bloody Mary (I just may have needed it after celebrating the Predators win the night before).
This is made with a house-made mix. What I love about it is it's spicy without mind-blowing heat.
Had to keep my eye on the game!
Speaking of heat! Mr. Ville's BBQ nachos caused our bar tab to go up.
I stuck with the basics: pulled pork with green beans and mac-and-cheese.
I have noticed one thing about the sides at PLP; all the beans are really hot. Not that that is a bad thing, just be warned.
After sampling a few beers suggested by the Peg Leg himself, and a darn good Bushwacker, we finally pushed ourselves away from the bar.
After running a few errands in the Gulch, we had the bus drop us off at the Frist to catch the new show, "Looking East: Western Artists and the Allure of Japan" and I was able to get this very appropriate shot.
I don't know if it was all the libations at lunch or what, but the exhibit really didn't make a lot of sense. I still loved seeing a Van Gogh and some Edward Weston. Maybe I should venture back after a coffee.
